LUIGI GRECO: SHINY NOTHING

The project consists of ten Still Life made from objects found in my grandfather's house. The values and status that those objects emanated in the years of economic boom, are dissolved and mixed in an attempt to deconstruct and deny those same values. “Shiny nothing” is a small personal war, my grandfather's objects are the legacy within which to build something "new". The definitive physical interventions on some objects serve to “break” them, exorcising the old values. Past generations have taken a lot, leaving us a future less and less solid and made of promises and disillusionment. So, the resulting objects are uncertain, unstable and sometimes grotesque. In the post-modern idea of reworking, however, there is an ethical and ecological aim, if nothing really “new” can exist, we can still work on overturning what already exists.
